Second Letter from Pat
Barrett Dear Barbara and Bob Here is more history for you about your house -- Zeke Daley, an Elko resident, the town Santa Claus, and owner of a manufacturing business in town, built the three room log cabin structure. Someone may know if the school house arrived before the cabin was built. It's sort of like the "chicken and the egg riddle" - who knows? Lund (of Lund Masonry) remembers great parties out in Lamoille while the cabin was being built. He is a stone mason so he was put to work building the fireplace. He admits it was not his best work; but he remedied that after I bought the house in 1974. An Elko Grammar School between 8th and 9th on Court Street had been demolished to make way for Senior housing. I had collected some of the yellow bricks. He added these to the chimney so that it would draw better. Unfortunately Zeke died before I moved to Lamoille so I could never hear first hand about the house or the property, but Marion remembered quite a bit about the school. I think you could talk to Amanda Buzzetti since she has been in Lamoille since childhood. Also Florence Zollitch would know some of the history. There will probably be some conflicting reports since many people remember things differently. *One of Lund's best fireplaces is in Kelly Parker's house. Creek rocks were used after they had been cracked in half. The result is quite handsome. These are things I remember since the mid-1970's. Sincerely,
